Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni admits that the team’s 4-4 Serie A draw with Juventus was a “low point” for their season.

The 24-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 win over Cagliari. He argued that that a “switch had flipped” after that at-times calamitous match.

Inter and Juventus played out one of the most memorable Derby d’Italia matches in recent memory, if not ever, at the end of October.

Normally, clashes between the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri have a reputation for being tight and cagey.

That was certainly not the case this time around. The Derby ended with a remarkable 4-4 scoreline.

Inter and Juventus had to split the points. But it was the Bianconeri who were undoubtedly the happier of the two teams.

For the Nerazzurri, there was the feeling that they’d needlessly dropped two points. They had a two-goal advantage heading into the closing stages, before squandering.

On the other hand, for Juventus, there was a feeling that they’d fought to snatch an improbable point.

Alessandro Bastoni: “4-4 Draw Vs Juventus A Low Point” For Inter

Of the season so far, Bastoni said that “I think we flipped the switch after the match against Juventus,”

“We reached our lowest point there,” the 24-year-old admitted. “But it was a point where we knew something had to change.”

“Perhaps we didn’t have the same focus, the same desire to bring matches home as last season,” Bastoni continued.

“But then we made a big step forward there.”

“We understood that we had to raise our level. Then, we have Atalanta and Napoli who are having a great season, and we have to stay focused because they’ll try to take advantage of every slip-up we make.”

And of today’s 3-0 Serie A win over Cagliari, Bastoni said that “We knew it would be tough.”

“They’re a very physical team, they play a lot of long balls and play with a lot of hunger.”

“In the first half they kept up with the tempo,” Bastoni said of Cagliari.

“Then at halftime, the coach told us they couldn’t keep that up for ninety minutes. So it was important to find the goal that broke the deadlock.”

“In my opinion we’ve made a big step up in terms of focus and maturity,” Bastoni argued.

“Even against Como, we went into halftime at 0-0. But we never lost our composure or our shape, and that’s an important thing.”
