Juventus were more active than anticipated in January as they had to plug some holes, but most of the newcomers joined on loan. Director Cristiano Giuntoli voiced his satisfaction with how the window went and disclosed their plans for the future talking to Sky before the first leg of the Champions League playoff against PSV:
“We needed to make up for some absences caused by injuries, especially defensively, and we had the Arkadiusz Milik situation and signed Randal Kolo Muani to solve it. Our relationship with PSG is excellent. We moved early and with great determination to beat the competition. Our intention is to continue with him. We’ll sit down at the end of the season to see how to make it happen:”
Juventus also significantly bolstered their rearguard.
“After losing Juan Cabal, we needed a lefty, and we actually brought in two. It’s important for the build-up. Lloyd Kelly can also play as a center-back, while Renato Veiga as a defensive midfielder. They are versatile players and good both technically and on a human level.”
The Juventus exec dished on Teun Koopmeiners, who was benched after a pair of rough outings.
“He has given us a lot in the first part of the season despite not doing the preparation and a rib injury. He takes more care of the dirty work. Perhaps his numbers are a little lacking compared to the past. He needs a breather because he has played a lot, but Douglas Luiz will be able to provide his contribution.”
