Despite being seen as an asset, relations between Cambiaso and Juventus have reportedly soured. Calciomercato state that “the feeling is that something has broken between the Italian international full-back and the Bianconeri.”

Cambiaso’s agent, Giovanni Bia, did not hold back in a recent interview with Radio Kiss Kiss. “Guardiola wanted him, Juventus will explain what happened. I can tell you that everything written about the negotiations is true.”

While a January deal with Manchester City ultimately collapsed, the Premier League interest hasn’t faded. Guardiola is reportedly still pursuing the former Genoa defender, and “with an offer of 40 to 45 million euros, the deal could go through—this time for real.”

Crucially, the report adds: “Attention to the candidacy of Liverpool, who must find a successor to Alexander-Arnold, destined for Real Madrid on a free transfer.” This is the first time Cambiaso has been explicitly linked with Liverpool in light of the uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future.

Juventus already planning post-Cambiaso era

With Cambiaso increasingly likely to depart, Juventus have already begun preparing for life after him. Cristiano Giuntoli, the club’s sporting director, is reported to have taken a strong interest in Maxim De Cuyper, the talented Belgian left-back from Club Brugge.

Described by Calciomercato as “technically gifted, physically well-built and with a powerful engine,” De Cuyper has caught the eye following a standout Champions League campaign. Juventus’ early enquiries suggest a clear strategy is in place: Cambiaso’s exit is not just possible—it is being planned for.

For starters, Andrea Cambiaso is exactly the kind of player Liverpool need in a post-Arnold era. Still just 24, he’s already a full Italy international, tactically intelligent and technically sound. The fact Pep Guardiola has maintained long-term interest says plenty.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly edging closer to a move to Real Madrid, as stated by Calciomercato, Liverpool must act decisively. Cambiaso isn’t a like-for-like replacement—his game leans more towards traditional full-back duties than Trent’s hybrid midfield role—but he could offer defensive balance and adaptability that suits Arne Slot’s philosophy.

What’s most intriguing is that Liverpool are said to be in contention alongside Manchester City. That signals ambition. It suggests Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are prepared to back Slot’s vision with proper talent.

Juventus preparing a replacement in De Cuyper makes this rumour feel very real. There’s movement behind the scenes, and if Liverpool are serious, they must be proactive, not reactive.

Cambiaso may not be a marquee name just yet, but neither was Andy Robertson when he arrived. In the right system, with the right coaching, this could be a steal at €45 million.
