Kevin De Bruyne's final Manchester derby was not one to remember for the Manchester City playmaker.

Having announced his summer departure from Manchester City in the build-up to the game, De Bruyne was handed a rare start on Sunday, leading his side out for just the 13th time this season as they slumped to a 0-0 draw with Manchester United.

Much of the attention was focused on De Bruyne but, unfortunately for the 33-year-old, he was one of many players who failed to catch the eye in what was, in truth, a bitterly disappointing meeting between two fierce rivals.

For De Bruyne, Sunday's game marked the first Premier League match in seven years in which he failed to create a single chance despite playing the full 90 minutes.

Not since a meeting with West Ham United in April 2018 had De Bruyne played a full 90 and failed to create at least one goalscoring opportunity for his teammates - a run of 88 games with at least one chance created.

It may not have been the dream ending to his Manchester derby legacy for De Bruyne, but the Belgium international was still singled out for praise from United captain Bruno Fernandes after the game.

"De Bruyne made the Premier League better," Fernandes told Sky Sports. "If City is where it is, and Man Utd hasn't won many trophies in this period it's because of Kevin De Bruyne, and he deserves all the credit.

"He's done fantastic. Ten years in the Premier League is a lot. They have decided to part ways. I don't know from which side, but Kevin keeps being world-class, and it was a pleasure to watch him so close. It was a pleasure to play against him.

"He's going to stay in the history of the Premier League, not only of Man City."
