Lazio have reportedly found an agreement with Vejle BK for their young central defender Oliver Provstgaard.

Searching for a New Defender

The Biancocelesti have been looking to add a new defender to their ranks before the end of the winter transfer window, preferably one under the age of 22, as their senior squad list is already congested. In recent weeks, RC Strasbourg’s Abakar Sylla emerged as the main candidate for the role, but Southampton are now the favorites to land the 22-year-old Ivorian.

Lazio Closing in on Agreement for Oliver Provstgaard

But according to Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio have swiftly found themselves an alternative in the shape of Provstgaard. As the Italian journalist explains, the management has been working quietly on this track, and they’re now ironing out the last details before reaching a full agreement with the Danish club. The operation is expected to cost the Aquile €5-6 million.

The Background

The 21-year-old is a youth product of Vejle who has been a member of the club’s senior squad since January 2022, and his contract with the club is valid until June 2026. Provstgaard is also the captain of Denmark’s U21 team.

Provstgaard’s Attributes

Pedulla describes him as a physically imposing defender (standing at 195cm) who also boasts impressive technical skills which allows him to help his team build from the back. At Lazio, the Dane would have to vie for a starting spot against four more experienced central defenders in the form of Alessio Romagnoli, Mario Gila, Samuel Gigot and Patric.
