Liverpool attacker a doubt for Wolves game as Slot delivers injury update | OneFootball

Liverpool boss Arne Slot revealed that Cody Gakpo is an injury doubt to face Wolves in the Premier League this Sunday.

The Dutch attacker was subbed off in the 69th minute of Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park after picking up a knock and was replaced by Darwin Nunez.

Gakpo joins Joe Gomez on the treatment table ahead of the game at Anfield. The defender remains sidelined by a thigh injury he sustained just 11 minutes into last weekend’s FA Cup defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

Gomez injured the same leg he damaged in the 5-0 win over West Ham United in late December, which kept him out of action for six weeks. He’s expected to miss a large portion of the remainder of the season.

“Cody is a bit of a doubt – let’s see how he is today,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference. “I had to take him off due to an injury because he got a knock.”

Meanwhile, Curtis Jones will miss the Wolves match through suspension after receiving a second booking after the final whistle of the Merseyside Derby.

Despite dropping points in midweek, Slot praised fighting spirit that was on display from Liverpool.

“We won a lot on Wednesday,” the Dutchman said. “The togetherness of the team and the fans – how much they fought together to get the result over the line.

“We’ve praised the players about how well they can play but they showed a different side of themselves – much better than a year before. They were so strong during a game that was played in very difficult circumstances.

“To stay strong together and fight together that gives me a lot of confidence in the next 14 games. I knew how well they can play but the togetherness shows me that we are a very difficult team to beat.”
