Liverpool’s interim head coach Amber Whiteley says that the team have gained huge belief off the back of their Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-final victory at Arsenal last weekend.

The Reds defeated The Gunners 1-0 in Borehamwood as they claimed their place in the last four.

Liverpool’s attention now turns towards tonight’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester United at Anfield. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, interim boss Whiteley said that her side are full of confidence off the back of that victory at Arsenal.

“The performance and result on Sunday has given us huge belief going into the United game,” Whiteley said. “It has been a quick turnaround. We enjoyed the win on Sunday but then we’ve had to shift the focus quite quickly and get to work on United.”

Manchester United arrive at Anfield having lost just one league fixture all season while they boast the division’s best defensive record. Whiteley believes that The Red Devils will leave space in-behind to be exploited.

She said “There are always opportunities to exploit the opposition. We have looked at that throughout the week. I think they are very aggressive off the ball and when you’re that aggressive off the ball, you leave spaces behind.

“We have to be calm and recognise where the spaces are, particularly on transition.”

Liverpool take on Manchester United at Anfield for the first time and Whiteley says that The Reds are looking forward to what promises to be a special occasion.

She said “It’s an occasion that we are all looking forward to, Friday night under the lights against one of our biggest rivals. Those are the games that everyone wants to be a part of.

“We all want to play on the biggest stages and Anfield is a second home for us. We want to pack it out with as many supporters as we can and we will need everyone to get right behind us.”

Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester United kicks-off at 7.15pm this evening. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
