Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson insists he is “fine” after suffering a head injury while playing for Brazil.
The goalkeeper suffered a suspected concussion during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia when he collided with former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez and was substituted in the second half.
Brazil’s medical team later confirmed the nature of his injury, and he has since returned to Liverpool for further assessment.
Providing an update on Instagram, Alisson reassured fans that he is “fine” but will follow the necessary concussion protocols. With Liverpool not playing until April 2, he will hopefully recover in time for the Everton clash after the international break.
Another worry for Liverpool fans was Ryan Gravenberch’s withdrawal from international duty with the Netherlands. The midfielder picked up a knock in the Carabao Cup final and initially linked up with the Dutch squad before returning to Merseyside as a precaution.
According to BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Gravenberch is ‘not carrying a serious injury’ and is expected to be fit for Liverpool’s title run-in.
With 3,516 minutes across 41 appearances this season, the 22 year old has been one of the Reds most heavily relied upon players. Having started Liverpool’s last nine matches and played the full 120 minutes against Paris Saint-Germain, his fatigue has been evident. His decision to rest rather than risk further injury will be a relief for Slot, who will need him fresh for the final stretch of the season.
Ibrahima Konate sat on the bench as France knocked out Croatia on penalties to set up a semi-final against Spain.
The defender suffered a knock in the first-leg clash and was taken off at half-time before being given a rest in the second game, but joined in the celebrations and does not appear to have any major issue.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota all played 120 minutes in their respective UEFA Nations League quarter-finals. Van Dijk, who scored the Netherlands first penalty, could not prevent his side from losing 5-4 to Spain in a shootout after a thrilling 5-5 aggregate draw.
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and Hungary suffered relegation from League A after a heavy 3-0 loss to Turkey, with Real Madrid’s Arda Guler grabbing a goal.
Elsewhere, Andy Robertson’s Scotland were thrashed 3-0 by Greece.
With Liverpool already stretched, Slot will have to manage his squad carefully to avoid burnout in the final months of the season.
Liverpool’s next match is the Merseyside derby at Anfield on April 2. Liverpool and Everton asked to move Wednesday’s derby to the Tuesday but were denied, so this will give players a valuable nine-day window to recover.
