Rayan Cherki (21) was on the cusp of leaving formative club Olympique Lyonnais last summer. Whilst he ultimately remained, a departure this summer looks a foregone conclusion. A move to England is on the cards, Le Parisien understands.
Cherki was on the cusp of joining Paris Saint-Germain last summer. The deal was essentially secured, however, at the last minute, the France youth international opted to join Borussia Dortmund. The only issue was that the Bundesliga side had not reached an agreement with Lyon and never succeeded in doing so.
Get French Football News understands that, having infuriated the hierarchy at PSG, the Ligue 1 champions will not re-ignite their interest, a piece of information now confirmed by Le Parisien. However, the Lyon forward, currently having the best season of his career (12 goals, 19 assists in 43 matches), won’t be short of suitors.
Whilst there is interest from Germany, the most serious interest comes from England. As per Le Parisien, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur have all made enquiries for the Frenchman. He will come relatively cheap, too. When Cherki opted to extend with OL last summer, it was agreed that he could leave this summer for a fee of €22.5m. That agreement will have to be honoured by Lyon, otherwise, there would be further penalties. Given their well-known financial issues, that is something they cannot afford.
