In the latest episode of The Daily Red Podcast from Anfield Index, Dave Hendrick offered his insights ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Wolves. With Arne Slot at the helm, Liverpool fans are eager to see how their team performs against a tricky Wolves side. Here’s what Hendrick had to say, in his own words, about Liverpool’s form, Wolves’ threats, and key players to watch.
Dave Hendrick was clear about Wolves’ danger man: “He [Matheus Cunha] is single-handedly keeping Wolves up this year.” He praised Cunha’s impact, predicting that “there’s no chance he’s at Wolves beyond next January”, highlighting the Brazilian’s 12 goals so far this season.
Hendrick also noted the movement in Wolves’ front line, cautioning Liverpool’s defence: “With Sarabia and Guedes up top, you’re going to have to be on your game because they’ll be interchanging constantly.”
Despite injuries to key players like Sasa Kalajdzic and Hwang Hee-chan, Hendrick believes Wolves can still pose a threat, adding, “Sarabia’s an intelligent player who picks up good pockets of space.”
Discussing Liverpool’s potential line-up, Hendrick expects Arne Slot to make some key decisions, especially with Curtis Jones suspended: “Curtis Jones is suspended, but thankfully, it’s only a one-game suspension. Of the games coming up, this is probably the one you’re comfortable with him missing.”
Hendrick believes Darwin Núñez should lead the line, stating emphatically, “Darwin should definitely start” and advocating for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return: “Trent should come back in at right-back.”
The podcast also covered the shift from Jurgen Klopp to Arne Slot. Hendrick praised Slot’s passion and his defence of the players, reminiscent of Klopp’s style: “It’s great to see Arne doing it as well. We always had Jurgen standing up for the team, and now Slot’s doing the same.”
Hendrick welcomed Slot’s likely presence in the dugout, adding: “Slot is likely to be in the dugout, which is always good news.” The show highlighted how Slot is quickly earning the respect of both players and fans for his leadership.
Hendrick recalled the history between the two sides, pointing out Liverpool’s dominance but also Wolves’ rare success: “Wolves’ 3-0 win over Liverpool in February 2023 was their only clean sheet in the last 16 league meetings.” Despite this, he reminded listeners of Wolves’ struggles at Anfield, adding: “They’ve only scored five times in their last 19 visits to Anfield.”
Hendrick’s final thoughts were focused on confidence and performance: “Confidence is all we’re looking for, lads. It doesn’t need to be anything spectacular.” His message to Liverpool fans was clear: Trust Slot’s leadership and expect the Reds to deliver against Wolves.
