The forward finally got off the mark against Sheffield Wednesday and there could be no stopping him now.

Luton Town's return to the Championship did not start how most expected it to, but after failing to find a win in their first four matches, Rob Edwards' side look to have remedied their issues.

The Hatters lost three times, and drew once before the first international break of the 2024/25 campaign, scoring just twice.

However, September has seen the one-time Premier League club find form, winning their opening two games of the month, finding the back of the net three times in the process.

Millwall were the first team to be defeated by Luton, before Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 2-1 loss at Kenilworth Road at the weekend.

Despite the result being a huge positive, it was coupled with Carlton Morris scoring his first two goals of the season, after failing to find the scoresheet in his previous five appearances since relegation.

Getting Morris firing once again is a huge positive for Luton

The 28-year-old has been key for Luton since joining the club in 2022, and has 33 goals to his name in orange. But there could have been fears if his dry spell continued that it would be harder for him to break his duck.

Nevertheless, Morris is clinical at this level, scoring 20 times for the Hatters in their promotion campaign after signing for over £1 million from Barnsley.

His goals in that season were a key reason behind their play-off finish, as they helped towards 11 wins across the course of 2022/23.

It has not just been in the Championship where he has found the back of the net, as Morris finished as the club's top scorer in their Premier League campaign. The forward scored 11 goals in 38 appearances for Luton, including a run of five strikes in just seven games from January to February.

If Edwards can keep his ace fit, then his goals will push them into the promotion race despite their poor start to the season. They have momentum, and a squad that is more than capable of reaching the play-offs at the very least.

Plymouth Argyle will have to work out a plan to stop Morris

While the situation is one that benefits Luton, Plymouth Argyle supporters will be right to have some worries ahead of Friday's clash at Home Park.

Wayne Rooney's side have improved week-on-week this season, and were unfortunate to lose to top of the table West Bromwich Albion last Saturday, and they will have to work out a way to stop Morris.

His two goals against Sheffield Wednesday after coming off the bench were by no means the best of his career, as he put away a penalty and was lucky to have the ball deflected into his path for the winner, turning the ball into an empty net. However, he was still in the right place at the right time for the second, and that is extremely hard to defend against.

His instinct to get into goalscoring positions is what separates him from a lot of other strikers at this level, and the Pilgrims may have to look at man-marking Morris throughout the game if he does start.

What is bad news for Plymouth, though, is good news for Luton, who will be hoping that their talisman can continue to find his feet and fire the team to a third win in a row on Friday evening.
