Manchester City are battling with Chelsea to sign 15-year-old Leicester City prospect Jeremy Monga, reports have revealed.
Monga features regularly for both Leicester's Under-18 and Under-21 sides and was an unused substitute on the senior side's bench for the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United early in February, having regularly trained with Ruud van Nistelrooy's squad.
Monga's progress has caught the eye of many, with both Chelsea and City among his numerous suitors, but the Daily Mail state it is Pep Guardiola's side who are currently pushing ahead to get a deal over the line.
Given his age, Monga cannot yet sign a senior contract and so City can push to strike a deal which would likely see a compensation fee determined by a tribunal.
Leicester cannot block City's approach but Van Nistelrooy recently confirmed he hopes to get personally involved in the club's plans to try keep Monga, a winger, around for the foreseeable future.
"Jeremy is a great talent that for me is a vital part of the future of this club," van Nistelrooy said. "We're looking to start conversations to keep him at the club. It's important for me that that can work out. We're planning that.
"We're looking at his development, where he is now. He's 15, he's still in school, only on Thursdays is he available for training with us. So in that perspective, we have to see what's best for him, and the pathway to the first team and senior football.
"We are presenting to him our thoughts and my thoughts on him. I think very highly of him and want him to be part of the long-term future of this club.
"[His talent has been noticed] by the whole world. That's why we have him with the first team where possible. That's why conversations with him and his family will start soon. I will of course be talking with him and his family, presenting him a pathway that we think is best to get him into the first team."
