Manchester City Esports FC Pros Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt and Matias Bonanno have become the first duo in the history of the ePremier League to defend the title since the competition’s inception in 2019.

The duo fought off tough opponents Brighton in the final, completing a thrilling 6-5 aggregate triumph on Sunday evening to lift the title in another historic year for the Club.

The victory in London also means Tekkz and Mati have confirmed their places in the eChampions League and FC Pro Open World Championships.

Our route to the final began with a tense 5-4 quarter-final win over Fulham. Tekkz played first and gave his duo Bonanno a 4-0 advantage after a cruising win over Logriffey.

Bonanno fell to a 4-1 defeat against Salman at the full-time whistle but City’s aggregate score was marginally better to see us progress to the final four in what was a tense win on centre stage.

This time it was Bonanno to go first in our semi-final and he faced Liverpool’s ManuBachoore on PlayStation. And it was a phenomenal showing from the Argentine as he won the first leg 6-2 to give his duo, Tekkz, a comfortable lead when he took to the hot seat to face Leks.

The three-time ePL winner lost his Xbox match 2-0 but City’s aggregate was still better, advancing to the final with a scoreline of 6-4 over Liverpool.

The last test standing in City’s way was Brighton, who Tekkz and Mati also beat in last year’s final.

Tekkz took centre stage first and fell behind quickly with Jayden taking a 2-0 lead. Tekkz remained composed, however, and fought back to end his game 4-2 and in turn left Bonanno with a decent chance to pull things back for City.

Focused on the task ahead, Bonanno took the lead inside six in-game minutes to half the deficit against Marley before levelling the score to 4-4 and then stealing the lead on the brink of half-time.

The game’s narrative continued to change in seconds. Marley made it 5-5 before Bonanno restored City’s lead with the two Pros continuously taking it in turns to attack.

But it would be City who triumphed when the full-time whistle blew, holding out for a tense 6-5 win.

And it’s undoubtedly a moment the City Esports duo will cherish.

“It almost doesn’t feel real what we’ve achieved but I think the amount of hard work Mati and I have put into preparing for this moment is reflected in the result,” said Tekkz.

“Brighton were extremely tough opponents in the final and Mati and I had to really dig deep to come out on top.

“But we had our minds set on making more history this year and we’ve done it!

“We will enjoy this moment but then it’s also straight on to preparing for the eChampions League and the World Championships.”

Mati added: “To become the first team to win the title back-to-back is a special achievement for me and I also can’t wait to face the challenge of continuing our form in the eChampions League and the World Championships.

“I think Tekkz and I are one of the best duos in the world right now and we definitely proved that in what has been the most difficult ePremier League series we have ever played in.

“We want to thank all the Manchester City fans for supporting us and helping us fight for another historic ePremier League trophy, they really helped us get to this moment.”

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Tekkz and Mati on their historic win!
