Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras has insisted he remains happy with the Portuguese side amid interest in his services from Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Carreras, 21, joined Benfica this summer when his loan from United, where he was better known as Alvaro Fernandez, was made permanent for £5m, and his impressive performances have seen his transfer value grow rapidly over the past six months.

Barcelona and Madrid have both been warned it would take over £40m to sign Carreras, but United are believed to have a buy-back clause of just £17m which former manager Erik ten Hag hinted at using before he was relieved of his duties.

Ruben Amorim's iteration of United are also chasing a left-back, with Lecce's Patrick Dorgu currently the top target, but the Red Devils could consider triggering their option to re-sign Carreras.

However, after grabbing an assist in Benfica's hectic 5-4 defeat to Barcelona in midweek, Carreras suggested he is in no rush to leave his current side.

"You never know, but I have a contract for many years here at Benfica, I am happy," he stressed. "They gave me the opportunity to grow and I owe them everything."

The two Spanish giants are expected to postpone their pursuits of a new left-back until the summer transfer window. Madrid had been chasing Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies but the Canada international appears close to signing a new contract.

Barcelona had also been linked to Davies, with a host of other high-profile players linked with a move to Catalunya despite the club's ongoing financial issues. Manchester United's Marcus Rashford is one such target, while Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic has been touted as a potential target should the club need to replace veteran goal-getter Robert Lewandowski.
