Amidst this, Sport claim that United could consider an approach to sign Andreas Christensen from Barcelona this winter.

The centre-back’s future has been put into doubt after Ronald Araujo was convinced to sign a new Barcelona contract.

The Blaugrana are open to offloading Christensen or Eric Garcia this winter to free up wages to bring in a midfielder or a striker.

United have made ‘some contact’ regarding Christensen, but there has been no formal offer on the table.

Christensen would be a fine signing due to vast PL experience

The 28-year-old has made just one appearance for the Blaugrana this campaign. He has been sidelined since late August with an Achilles tendon injury.

The Dane recently returned to team training with the Catalan giants, and he is anticipated to make the matchday squad against Getafe this weekend.

His return to full fitness should encourage bids from his suitors. Christensen could be open to a transfer as he is no longer an assured starter when fit.

This could pave the way for Christensen’s exit. He would be a superb signing for United, given his vast Premier League experience from his Chelsea days.

It appears a no-brainer decision to recruit him. He was valued at £21 million last summer. United could sign him for less after his injury lay-off.
