Man Utd predicted XI vs Lyon and team news

Andre Onana’s pair of blunders handed Lyon a late draw at home in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final showdown with Manchester United and now the French side make the trip to England in a bid to attempt to upset the Red Devils on their own patch and prolong their stay in the Europa League.
The match finished 2-2 last Thursday and another exciting encounter looks likely as the pair look to seal a place in the semi-finals.
The Old Trafford decider will be shown live on TNT Sports 1 & Discovery+ on Thursday, April 17 with kick-off at 20:00.
A couple of howlers from United keeper Andre Onana handed Lyon a way back into this tie last week and the Red Devils cat paid for his errors by being left out of the squad for last weekend’s heavy defeat at Newcastle in the Premier League.
However, United boss Ruben Amorim is likely to restore Onana back to the starting XI for this Europa League quarter-final second leg at Old Trafford, with back-up keeper Altay Bayindir making way after he shipped four goals in the loss at St James’ Park on Sunday.
Joshua Zirkzee suffered a hamstring injury in the same match and looks set for a spell on the sidelines according to Amorm. The Dutch youngster is likely to be replaced in attack by misfiring forward Rasmus Hojlund.
Matthijs de Ligt, Amad Diallo, Ayden Heaven (all ankle), Lisandro Martinez (knee), Jonny Evans (back) and Toby Collyer (leg) remain in the Old Trafford treatment room, while teenage forward Chido Obi-Martin is ineligible for European competition.
Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho are likely to partner Hojlund in a three-man attack as is favoured by Amorim.
The winners of this contest will take on either Rangers or Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals next month and it is United’s last chance of salvaging something from a thoroughly disappointing campaign.
It is the Red Devils’ last chance of qualifying for Europe next term as they start the week 14th in the Premier League and way off the qualifying spots.
Winning the Europa League will be rewarded with a Champions League place, but United have plenty of work to do if they are to land an unlikely trophy.
It’s a case of win or bust for United and recent history offers little clues as to how this tie will pan out ahead of this decider with Lyon.
United have lost their last two home encounters with French opposition – both to PSG in February 2019 (2-0) and December 2020 (3-1) – but they have never been beaten by Lyon in five previous meetings – winning twice and drawing three times – and they remain the only unbeaten team in this season’s Europa League with six wins and five draws.
Lyon have won seven of their last nine matches in all competitions since the beginning of March, scoring 24 goals in the process, and they travel to Old Trafford unbeaten across their last 12 Europa League away games.
Les Gones also boast an impressive away record against English opposition, losing just one of their last nine such matches on the road in European competition.
