Here are the City player ratings as Manchester City drew 1-all with Everton. When the starting lineups were announced Pep Guardiola’s side entered the game without Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker, Rodri, Ruben Dias, Oscar Bobb, Matheus Nunes and Ederson. But in truth, Manchester City should’ve won the game, although Everton could’ve won it late on. All told a draw was probably a fair result.

First half

The game began with Manchester City looking in an ominous mood. Their first chance came in the third minute after a well-worked corner saw Phil Foden pick out Josko Gvardiol whose powerful header hit the post. But it was a bright start from Pep Guardiola’s side.

From there the pattern of the game was set. Manchester City looked bright in possession and Everton were defending deep and looking to hit City on the counter.

Manchester City’s early dominance was rewarded when Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the 14th minute. A driving run from Jeremy Doku saw the Belgian winger play in Bernardo. His deflected finish beat Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal to give City a well-deserved lead.

Everton had their first shot on goal in the 21st minute as a well-worked move saw Mangala have a shot from outside the City box. But his shot went well over the bar.

In the 33rd minute, a beautiful piece of combination play between Erling Haaland and Phil Foden created a chance for Bernardo Silva. But his shot went wide. Perhaps a more simple finish would’ve sufficed rather than shooting with the outside of his left foot.

Manchester City would pay the price for Bernardo Silva’s miss three minutes later. A quality strike from Iliman N’Diaye made it 1-all. It was tough on Pep Guardiola’s side but it was a well-worked move by Sean Dyche’s side.

From there, Everton grew into the game, and Pep Guardiola’s side tried to reassert their early dominance. But at the interval, the game was delicately poised at 1-all with all to play for in the second half.

Second half

Manchester City’s first chance of the second half came from the head of Josko Gvardiol. Another corner was met by the head of the Croatian. But he didn’t make the contact he would’ve liked, and Jack Harrison made a simple goal-line clearance.

Pep Guardiola’s side upped the ante after that, and minutes later, Savinho saw a fine strike saved by Jordan Pickford. Mateo Kovacic then followed the rebound up with a strike that just went wide from outside the box.

In the 49th minute, Savinho earned Manchester City a penalty. The Brazilian winger was fouled by Vitalii Mykolenko. But Erling Haaland saw his spot kick saved by Jordan Pickford and you could feel the atmosphere deflate from the Etihad.

From there, Manchester City pushed for a second, and Everton had their moments on the break. In the 69th minute, a well-worked Everton counter saw an Abdoulaye Doucouré effort deflected inches wide courtesy of a Rico Lewis block.

In the 82nd minute, a deflected Mangala strike from the outside of City’s box sailed just wide with the aid of a deflection. Everton were pushing for a winner while Pep Guardiola’s side continued to press to change their fortunes.

But in the end, both teams would have to settle for a point. Perhaps what was telling was that Erling Haaland’s penalty, which was saved, was Manchester City’s last shot target of the game.

The City player ratings reflect City’s performance where they had moments but ultimately still lacked that cutting edge in the final third.

Stefan Ortega-6/10: Didn’t have any major saves to make and could do nothing about Everton’s goal.

Rico Lewis-7/10: He never stopped trying and was one of City’s better players on the day.

Manuel Akanji-6/10: Akanji is not fit but he keeps trying. Did all he could but his physical ailments are clear to see.

Nathan Ake-7.5/10: I thought Ake was superb. He made several crucial interventions and did all he could until he could do no more.

Josko Gvardiol-6.5/10: A better all-around performance from Gvardiol. He was unlucky to see his early header hit the bar but played more like the player we all know he can be.

Mateo Kovacic -6/10: Kovacic had several shots blocked and did his job in midfield.

Bernardo Silva -7/10: He scored City’s opener, but he gets a high grade due to his work rate. He has every reason to throw in the towel but he never does.

Savinho-7.5/10: The Brazilian was City’s most dangerous player on the day. Earned his team a penalty and showed glimpses of brilliance.

Phil Foden- 6.5/10: Had his moments but got crowded out of the game in the second half.

Jeremy Doku-6.5/10: Picked up an assist for Bernardo Silva’s opening goal. He was lively at times, but the majority of the play from Manchester City was down their right wing, so Doku didn’t feature prominently in the game.

Erling Haaland-3/10: His penalty, which was saved, sums everything up about Manchester City right now. Haaland needs to do more to help his team but his penalty miss cost his team. It’s as simple as that.
