Sky Germany reports that Manchester City’s James McAtee is still open to moving to Bayer Leverkusen in the future, despite the move failing to materialise in the winter.
In January, Leverkusen were interested in bringing McAtee to the BayArena. The loan with an option to buy of €25m was previously rejected by the Premier League side.
Despite the failed move, McAtee is still interested in moving to Germany. It is said he has watched every Leverkusen game since January and wants to move the current reigning Bundesliga champions.
Leverkusen are still in contact with City about the 22-year-old, but there are no advanced negotiations at the moment.
With City interested in bringing Florian Wirtz in as Kevin De Bruyne’s replacement. There is a scenario where the Premier League side could use McAtee in part of a deal to bring Wirtz to the North-West of England. This would not only allow Leverkusen to avoid selling Wirtz to a direct competitor in Bayern Munich, but they would also be given a potential replacement.
