Ruben Amorim is in a conundrum regarding his goalkeeping pick for Manchester United ahead of their season-defining Europa League quarter-final second leg tie against
Andre Onana was to blame as the Red Devils returned from France with only a draw to show for their efforts as the Cameroonian was culpable for both goals conceded on the night.
The head coach decided to take his No 1 out of the firing line for the club’s Premier League game against Newcastle, opting to hand Altay Bayindir his first Premier League start.
But the Turk did not cover himself in glory, committing an error while trying to pass out from the back which allowed the Magpies to score their fourth goal.
With third-choice Tom Heaton either expected to leave the club or join the coaching ranks, Amorim desperately needs reinforcements in goal.
He wants Onana out with INEOS even open to offering a discount as interest from Saudi Pro League sides mount while the Turkiye international is open to returning back home.
The latest keeper to be linked with a move to Old Trafford is Angers shot-stopper Yahia Fofana. He is single-handedly responsible for keeping Angers away from the Ligue 1 drop zone.
The 24-year-old has helped keep six clean-sheets this season. His strengths include being confident enough to claim crosses, while he is an athletic shot stopper with a good range of passing and has been termed as “one of Ligue 1’s best”.
The Red Devils have sent scouts to watch the Ivory Coast international in action as per TBR Football while Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested with Didier Drogba a fan of his compatriot.
“TBR Football understands that Ivory Coast goalkeeper Yahia Fofana is attracting the attention of a host of clubs following his impressive campaign with Angers.
“Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are among the clubs who are keen on the Ivorian international amid question marks over the future of their number one goalkeepers.
“Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham were all represented at Angers’ impressive 2-0 weekend win over Montpellier, sources have said.”
Whether United follow up their interest with a concrete bid remains to be seen. The 6ft 3in colossus has a market value of only €6 million while his contract is valid until 2026.
