Manchester United have reportedly earmarked a date for the opening of their new and revamped Carrington training complex.

United announced plans to modernise the men’s first team building at Carrington in June last year.

The club announced that the intention of the refurbishment was to “create a high-performance collaborative environment for players and staff.”

First opened in 2000, the overhaul of Carrington was estimated to cost a whooping £50million.

United enlisted the services of Foster + Partners, the London firm led by award-winning architect Lord Norman Foster. Foster is also spearheading the Old Trafford regeneration project.

Now, The Telegraph reveal that United are keen on opening the facility on July 31.

According to James Ducker, “United’s revamped £50 million Carrington training ground is due to open and be fully operational from July 31.”

“The site is currently undergoing a significant transformation and, while it is not certain to be fully finished in time for the start of pre-season in early July, works are expected to have been completed by the end of that month.”

“Amorim and his squad will be in a position to use the facility once they return from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States in early August.”

Carrington is expected to undergo a full interior overhaul, with Foster+Partners aiming to create a more streamlined design for the gym, medical, nutrition, and recovery areas.

This latest development comes a day after United announced ambitious plans to build a new £2bn 100,000-capacity stadium close to their current home at Old Trafford.

United want to complete the new stadium in five years, with the plan being to build large parts off-site before shipping it to the Old Trafford site via the Manchester ship canal.

The 20-time English champions are back in action on Thursday when they face Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.
