Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has had to turn to Carrington to fix the holes in his squad left by departing players and injuries.

Three Academy stars have made their United debut under the Portuguese — Chido Obi, Harry Amass, and Tyler Fredricson. The Red Devils rank second for minutes afforded to teenage stars this season.

Amass has grabbed the opportunity with both hands, making five appearances in all competitions, including three starts in the Premier League.

His impressive start to life as a first-team star has meant a lot of loan interest has been building up with Leicester City currently in pole position should the Red Devils agree to a temporary exit.

A final decision regarding his future is expected to be taken after pre-season with Amorim set to run the rule over plenty of academy stars during that time.

United are expected to strengthen in the wingback position and opportunities could become scarce for the 18-year-old and a loan exit cannot be ruled out.

Irrespective of where he plays his football next season, INEOS have been impressed with what they have seen so far and as per Fabrizio Romano, contract talks are expected to be initiated by the club in the summer.

The England U18 international’s current deal is valid until 2027 and the Red Devils want to tie him down on a longer deal given the interest he has generated.

New deal in the pipeline

“Manchester United are planning for new deal talks with Harry Amass after the end of the season.

“Club very happy with talented fullback’s progress and discussions due to start in the next months,” Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Amass’ agent had explained that he had offers from two other unnamed Premier League clubs before he chose to sign for the Red Devils from Watford. United want to avoid the possibility of a permanent exit and hence the contract talks.

The Carrington graduate also has 21 appearances for the various age group sides this season as well, registering four assists. Should funds be tight and given Luke Shaw’s injury record, keeping Amass at the club might be a beneficial move.
