FC Barcelona continue to work towards improving the squad in any way possible. While major signings are not exactly possible due to the club’s financial restrictions, there are other ways to bolster the team as well. One of those ways for Barcelona was to renew the contracts of current players in the team.
Just recently, the club has managed to renew the contracts of the likes of Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin, Pedri, and now Gavi as well. These contracts are crucial for Barcelona, as they allow the club to extend the stay of some key players for the foreseeable future.
However, while the club has certainly given priority to renewals over signings in this transfer window, that does not mean that new arrivals are not being considered. Instead, Barcelona has been linked rather regularly to a certain Manchester United winger as well.
Marcus Rashford, aged 27 and hailing from England, is the player who is linked to the Catalan club for a potential loan move. However, despite reports suggesting that the player is open to lowering his salary as well to join, there are other complications.
According to SPORT, Manchester United want guarantees from Barcelona that the Spanish side will be able to register Rashford with La Liga. Already aware of the club’s previous issues with the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, the Premier League club does not want to deal with any such issues when it comes to the English winger.
Instead, they want the player to be registered and able to play so that both clubs can end up dividing his current salary. However, following some rather harsh recent remarks from Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim, the player might not even be open to reducing his salary after all.
Still, Barcelona are reportedly determined to bring the winger to the club due to his own dedication to joining the Catalan outfit. Furthermore, they are aware of his objective to make the next six months of the season count and prove Manchester United wrong about him, so that added fuel makes him a good target to pursue.
Moreover, despite his character and dedication being called into question, the club reportedly still values his talent. Believing that he has more to offer, Barcelona is still open to pursuing the player and he is willing to wait until and unless he is told that the Spanish side is not interested in acquiring his services.
For now, the Catalan club is mainly relying on player sales to generate the salary space and revenue needed to accommodate a signing like Rashford. While Unai Hernandez has already left for Saudi Arabia, there are other potential departures still in the works that could end up helping Barcelona out.
