Enzo Maresca has admitted he’s surprised at how well Jadon Sancho has done since joining Chelsea on deadline day in the summer.

Sancho made the switch to Stamford Bridge from Manchester United on an initial loan deal, which will become permanent at the end of the season for in the region of £25m, if the Blues don’t finish in the bottom six.

The winger had a difficult time at Old Trafford and the switch to Chelsea was seen as a chance to get his career back on track and fulfil the obvious potential he has.

Maresca surprised by Sancho

Sancho was one of three attacking signings along with Joao Felix and Pedro Neto, and Maresca described him as a special player earlier this season.

The Blues take on Bournemouth on Tuesday evening and Sancho made his debut in the reverse fixture earlier this season, where he was named man of the match after an impressive second half performance, in which he set up Christopher Nkunku’s late winner.

Sancho has made a good start to life in west London and scored his first two goals for the club in wins against Southampton and Tottenham.

With Mudryk currently suspended Sancho has been the preferred choice on the left hand side and speaking ahead of the clash with the Cherries Maresca has admitted he’s been surprised by the England international.

“He is doing very well for me,” Maresca said as quoted by The Evening Standard.

“I am quite surprised with Jadon. I knew Jadon already so knew what to expect from him but in terms of being consistent.

“He is doing very well apart from a short spell of the season where he had some problems. Apart from that he has been very good.

“I expected him to do well but for all players to do well for a long period is not easy. He has done well for a long period.”

Sancho is in line to return to the starting line-up against Bournemouth as Chelsea look for a first win in four Premier League games.
