Mathys Tel reveals Harry Kane message before Tottenham transfer | OneFootball

Mathys Tel has revealed that a conversation with Harry Kane helped convince him to make the deadline day switch from Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur.

After Tel decided to leave Bayern late in the window over a lack of minutes, he attracted interest from most of the Premier League's elite. Tottenham moved aggressively and struck an agreement with Bayern to sign the Frenchman permanently for £50m, only for Tel to reject the offer following face-to-face talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

It looked like Manchester United could win the race for Tel's signature, but Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou managed to finally convince Tel to join on a loan deal which includes the option for a permanent transfer in the summer.

After completing his switch to Spurs, Tel confirmed Kane had also helped him make his decision.

"He told me this is a big club with a lot of very good people," Tel told club media. "The pitch is very nice, the training centre is very good, and if you go there, you can enjoy it."

Tel joined Bayern 12 months before Kane's big-money switch from Spurs and soon began to struggle for minutes. He started just six Bundesliga games last season, racking up seven goals and five assists, and had only two starts to his name this year under new boss Vincent Kompany.

Game time was key to Tel's decision to leave. He rebuffed interest from Chelsea due to the Blues' inability to guarantee him a significant role, but the teenage forward looks set for plenty minutes in Postecoglou's injury-hit forward line.
