Mayor Giuseppe Sala has announced the City Council’s intention to sell San Siro by the summer, putting a bit of time pressure on AC Milan and Inter.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan and Inter should send the feasibility project to the Council today, which will illustrate the plans and guidelines for the purchase of the San Siro stadium and adjacent areas.
It is not a surprise move – the timetable for trying to get there has been set for some time – but the fact that the two clubs are formally delivering the feasibility plan to the City Hall is an important step, as Paolo Scaroni outlined.
Sala spoke this morning on Rtl 102.5 and he revealed what his wishes are regarding the stadium project in terms of the time frame.
“I hope that today the offer and the economic plan will be delivered by the teams. The law tells us that, having the offer, we must make a public tender anyway, but it is clear that it will have as a prerequisite an area dedicated to football,” he said.

“The law then tells us that private negotiations can begin. If this offer arrives today, we will examine it and I will report to the City Council. The tender will last about 30-45 days and the goal is to sell the stadium and the areas to the teams for the summer holidays.”
Nothing will happen at San Siro until the Olympics because the inauguration of the Winter Olympics will be held. Sala adds: “Then the clubs will start to build a new stadium next to the Meazza. It will take a few years, and when it is ready they will regenerate the old stadium, which in my opinion is destined to live as we know it until 2030.”
In terms of timing, the basic idea is to start work in 2027 with the finish line set for 2030, for a stadium with approximately 71,500 seats (of which 13,000 will be corporate/hospitality) and an investment of more than €1bn.
