Boro have been advised to stay away from a pursuit of Rob Edwards to replace Michael Carrick.

Middlesbrough will be looking to put the disappointment of the end of the season behind them after the club failed to reach the play-offs.
Michael Carrick’s men saw defeat to Coventry City on the final day, wrapping up their campaign with a 10th-placed finish, taking 64 points from their 46 league outings.
Periods of inconsistency under the former Manchester United midfielder was ultimately a costly factor to their failure to leap into the top six, with question marks surrounding Carrick’s future and whether he is the right man to take Boro to that next step.
Carrick’s future was under threat earlier in the campaign due to a run of poor results, but the Teesside club stuck by him in challenging times.
With the summer before a new season the prime time for change, the Middlesbrough hierarchy are considering who will be the best person to lead the club forward heading into next season, and are reportedly admirers of former Luton Town boss Rob Edwards.
Whether a move for the 42-year-old will transpire is another matter, but Carrick will be looking on ominously with another name in the frame for the Boro hotseat.
Speaking to Football League World, Middlesbrough fan pundit Liam Day has urged Middlesbrough to stay away from appointing Rob Edwards, labelling the move as a “disaster”.
Day said: “Personally, I think it (the appointment of Rob Edwards) would be a bit of a disaster. I’m not a fan of Carrick. I don’t think he should be in charge, his football is slow, boring and predictable and he’s got no plan B.
“With Rob Edwards, he did well to get Luton promoted, but I feel like it wasn’t because of his tactics, it was because of Kenilworth Road being such a tough place to go. He did well, but I don’t think that’s the way to progress this club and I don’t think he’s the man to take us up.
“It wasn’t great the way it finished at Luton. They had a ridiculous team for the standard of this league, and he should have done much better. He was responsible for their relegation.
“It’s not the move we should make. I think there are better options out there. Obviously, Will Still has just left Lens. I’d much rather see someone like him come in, but Rob Edwards wouldn’t be the move I’d make.”
With Middlesbrough needing a crucial step forward to help realise their Premier League ambitions once again, a move for Rob Edwards, who had such a negative end to his Luton tenure, doesn’t look to be an exciting appointment.
The Hatters were far too leaky at the back and didn’t score enough goals going forward for a side expected to push for an instant return to the top-flight, winning just seven of their 26 Championship matches under the 42-year-old.
Failing to arrest the slide of their Premier League relegation, Boro need a manager who is on the rise in his career. Will Still may be a step too far given his links to Southampton, but a young coach from abroad could reignite the club and give them hope of a magical season at the Riverside.
