One BBC pundit has pinned the blame on Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after their game against Arsenal yesterday.

The news comes after Chelsea were defeated by Arsenal in the Premier League yesterday, losing to a first half headed goal by Mikel Merino.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea in for THIRD Sporting player this summer after two agreements made!

The game was obviously not without its drama and Chelsea fans saw what they expect to see every time Robert Sanchez starts, and that is him making a silly mistake and giving away a goal. This time he got lucky, but Maresca continued to back his goalkeeper at the full time whistle once again.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was seen mocking Maresca on the side lines in an interaction that has annoyed Blues fans even more.

All in all it wasn’t a good performance from Chelsea and it lacked intensity, desire, energy, and any kind of real belief that they could get something from the game.

Former England superstar Wayne Rooney was reviewing the game on Match of the Day 2 afterwards and he has pinned blame on goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for Merino’s goal.

The former player turned manager explains why he believes Sanchez’s positioning was what caused him to be unable to make the save.

Rooney said on MOTD2:

“If you look at the goalkeeper he is getting too involved with the other players. And he takes a backwards step whcih means he can’t get’ the elevation to stop the ball going in the back of the net. I think if he allows himself to and gives himself a bit of space then he’s front footed and potentially might save it.”

He’s made a really good point here, Sanchez ended up so flat-footed, and it was his decision to try and come out initially and then change his mind that caused it.
