Milan 1-1 Inter verdict: Italian papers react after Coppa Italia derby draw

The Italian press feel that Milan have become Inter’s ‘kryptonite’ in 2024-25 after the Rossoneri held the Serie A leaders to a 1-1 draw in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg on Wednesday night, but some suggest the Nerazzurri have improved compared to some of their recent Derby della Madonnina performances.
Here is how the Italian newspapers responded to the stalemate in San Siro
The first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final between Milan and Inter ended level at 1-1 on Wednesday night: Tammy Abraham opening the scoring two minutes into the second-half, before a thunderous equaliser from Hakan Calhanoglu two thirds of the way in.

It means that Milan are unbeaten across their last four derbies against Milan, all of which have fallen this season: A 2-1 win in Serie A in September, a 3-2 win in the Supercoppa Italiana, a 1-1 Serie A draw in February and now last night’s 1-1 draw in the Coppa Italia.
For this reason, La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote on Thursday that Milan have become Inter’s “kryptonite” and suggest that their run of results against the Nerazzurri this season is even more impressive given that they have done it with two different coaches in charge.

The Pink Paper also suggests that Inter were an improved side on Wednesday compared to some of their recent performances against the Rossoneri, and points out that this was achieved without some key first-team players such as Lautaro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco.
Corriere dello Sport hypothesised: ‘Where would they be if Milan always played like they do against Inter?’ in Thursday’s round-up, suggesting that Sergio Conceicao’s side would still be in the mix for Champions League football if they approached all of their Serie A matches in the same way that they do against the Nerazzurri.
Il Giornale, meanwhile, feels that the cup tie remains completely open and could still go either way given last night’s result, but suggests that any true verdict must be postponed until the two teams meet again at the end of the month.
