Milan overhauled their squad in January, changing three starters and bringing in a few more rotational pieces. The Rossoneri hadn’t been this active during the winter in ages. However, their brass dismisses the impression they did it because of the fan protesting against the ownership and that it was an instrument to raise its popularity, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The Curva stopped its occasionally loud, occasionally silent complaints during the recent Coppa Italia clash with Roma. The management felt the team needed a jolt and that the transfer market was the best way to provide it.
In January, Milan were more frenetic than ever during RedBird Capital’s two-year reign. They changed their MO, spending without selling and investing more than €20M for a single player for the first time. They also brought in a veteran, while they had prioritized younger players in previous windows.

In addition, qualifying for the Champions League is pivotal to maintaining the right financial equilibrium, especially with the new and more profitable format.
They basically moved up some signings they would have probably completed in the summer, but they didn’t necessarily pay a premium on them. It was the right thing to do. They already tried with a coaching change, and it led to just minor improvements. On the other hand, they could be in for a rough summer if they don’t make the top four (or five).
