Milan Player Ratings vs Lazio: Pavlovic Mindless Tackle Seals Rossoneri Fate

Milan lost three consecutive matches in Serie A for the first time since February 2023 as Lazio triumphed at the San Siro. Another erratic performance from Sergio Conceicao’s men resulted in a dismal 2-1 defeat to fellow European rivals.
Lazio had Milan on the ropes from the get-go. However, Mike Maignan came up huge to thwart Boulaye Dia only three minutes into the game. Marco Baroni’s side continued to dominate the game and eventually grabbed a well-deserved opener through Mattia Zaccagni.
Unable to react before halftime, Milan headed into the break on the back foot in a seemingly troubled mood. Things went from bad to worse for the Rossoneri when Strahinja Pavlovic received a straight red card midway through the second half for a horror tackle on Gustav Isaksen.
Despite falling to ten men, Milan found an equalizer as second-half substitute Samuel Chukwueze scored a towering header in the 84th minute. Conceicao’s side hoped to turn the game on its head in what was left on the clock, but it backfired.
Maignan tackled Isaksen to the ground in the 94th minute. Though referee Gianluca Manganiello refused to point to the spot at first, he changed his decision after consulting with VAR. Pedro was relentless from 12 yards out to land a hammer blow on Milan’s hopes of securing a top-four finish.
Mike Maignan – 7
Though his mistimed challenge eventually gifted Lazio a late winner, the French goalkeeper was the only reason Milan didn’t concede more tonight.
Alejandro Gimenez – 5.5
Unaware of Zaccagni’s presence, the young gun let the Lazio captain sneak behind to turn a rebound into the net. Failed to atone before being subbed off at halftime.
Matteo Gabbia – 6
Another disappointing evening for the Italian center-back! His poor anticipation put Dia one-on-one with Maginan early on while his other interventions brimmed with insecurity.
Strahinja Pavlovic – 3
It was going to happen sooner or later. The Serb paid the price for his over-zealous tackles, sealing Milan’s fate in the process.
Theo Hernandez – 5.5
Maybe it’s time for Theo to set things straight with Milan and decide whether he wants to stay or go. Tonight’s showing confirmed his focus was elsewhere.
Yunus Musah – 4
It’s enough to say Conceicao withdrew him before halftime. Sloppy in possession, he nearly gave away a red in the opening half an hour.
Youssouf Fofana – 6
The Frenchman fared well when asked to obstruct Lazio’s play but did almost nothing to help his side create chances on the other end of the pitch.
Tijjani Reijnders – 6.5
A rare bright spot in an otherwise disjointed Milan side, the Dutchman missed a decent chance in the first half but established himself as the team’s beating heart in the midfield.
Rafael Leao – 7
Reijnders’ miss denied him an assist, but he set Chukwueze up perfectly for the goal to crown a decent performance.
Santiago Gimenez – 5.5
It must be frustrating for a striker not to receive a single inviting ball in the box, but it was his story tonight.
Kyle Walker – 6.5
Joao Felix – 6
