FC Barcelona are set to face Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals tie tomorrow night at the Signal Iduna Park, after having won the first leg with a 4-0 scoreline.
This aggregate scoreline means the Germans will be facing the impossible task of getting over the Catalans and reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
However, the Dortmund coach, Niko Kovac, was still hopeful that his team can overcome these impossible odds as he spoke to the press ahead of this game.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German coach recognised the excellent form of Barcelona, but still expressed his hope of springing a miracle:
“We are aware of the situation. We want to show a completely different side tomorrow compared to the first leg and win the match. Miracles happen all the time, but we also know that Barcelona hasn’t lost a single official match this year.”
Kovac also highlighted one key aspect that can help his team mount this comeback:
“We have to be there from the first minute tomorrow and make sure the fans are on our side. We’ll only get the boost we need from them through our desire to run, our performance, and our passion.”
There is no doubt that Kovac and his Dortmund team will try their best to overcome the odds and get a berth in the semi-finals of the competition. However, with the advantage that the Catalans have in this tie and their form since the start of the season, their chances of success are quite bleak.
Meanwhile, Hansi Flick will have the opportunity to rest some of his fixed starters as Barcelona are still contending for all the big titles, and keeping the team fresh for the challenges ahead will be an important task for the Blaugrana coach.
