Mainz 05 midfielder Nadiem Amiri’s sensational run-of-form continues. Just as he was last Sunday, the euphoric former German national team player was called to the bullhorn after the full time whistle to lead the cheer in front of the FanKurve. Amiri will surely be in line for Kicker team-of-the-week honors again after notching a goal and an assist in Friday evening’s 1-3 Bundesliga win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Amiri’s sixth league goal of the campaign proved decisive. Gladbach nearly found their way back into the match when Stefan Lainer pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute. Before the visiting foals could muster up hope of restoring parity, however, Amiri put matters beyond all doubt with a glittering distance effort from 18 meters out. The victory ensures that the Rheinhessen will finish the weekend no lower than fourth place.
“It’s incredible what’s happening here now,” Amri told DAZN after celebrating with the traveling supporters. “It all starts in training. At the beginning of the match, we lost the ball and were unfocused. After that, what we delivered both on and off the ball was incredibly focused and mature.“
“What footballer doesn’t dream of playing in the Champions League?” a beaming Amiri added when asked about the seemingly impossible hopes he first fueled some weeks back. “We are were deserve to be now and everyone knows that.“
