Jude Bellingham has been one of the standout performers for both Real Madrid and England, but his national team manager, Thomas Tuchel, believes the midfielder needs to be more disciplined to make an even bigger difference.
At just 21 years old, Bellingham has already established himself as a key figure for club and country. He has scored 11 goals for Real Madrid this season and has netted six times in 41 appearances for England.
His influence was evident once again in England’s recent 2-0 victory over Albania at Wembley. He played a crucial role in setting up Myles Lewis-Skelly for the opening goal.
Tuchel acknowledged Bellingham’s immense talent but pointed out that he sometimes overexerts himself on the pitch.
While his energy and willingness to contribute in every phase of the game are valuable, there are moments when a more structured approach would be beneficial.
“Yes, he’s always ready to give his all, but we need to help him so that, within a structure, he can play more economically and still have the same impact, or even more,” said the England coach.

The England manager also emphasised the need for leadership within the squad. Bellingham, being one of the most influential players, is expected to set an example by maintaining control and playing within the team’s tactical framework.
“We need to make sure the leaders—and he’s one of them—and the most important players follow the same direction, play at the same pace, and help each other.
“Perhaps play with more discipline, to save energy for the decisive moments,” he added.
One of Bellingham’s defining traits is his emotional intensity. He thrives on competition and is deeply involved in every aspect of the game, including frequent interactions with referees and officials.
While his passion is commendable, Tuchel suggested that channelling his energy in a more strategic manner would benefit both the player and the team.
“He loves talking to the referee and the linesmen. He’s a very emotional player on the pitch, and you can tell he hates losing and does his best,” he noted.
