Newcastle United when measuring up against any other Premier League team.
Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning AND how many you are losing.
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season, as we are now moving into 2025.
After just over four months of the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won and lost, in Premier League AND domestic cup competition (as of the morning of 1 January 2025):
17 and 1 Liverpool
13 and 2 Arsenal
11 and 5 Chelsea
11 and 5 Forest
10 and 7 Man City
9 and 7 Villa
9 and 9 Tottenham
8 and 5 Bournemouth
8 and 5 Fulham
8 and 6 Brighton
8 and 9 Man U
8 and 9 Brentford
7 and 8 Palace
7 and 9 West Ham
5 and 12 Leicester
5 and 12 Wolves
4 and 8 Everton
4 and 16 Southampton
3 and 11 Ipswich
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are the third most successful, when it comes to winning and (not) losing.
So far in 2024/25, NUFC only behind Liverpool and Arsenal.
There is now clear daylight between Newcastle United and Chelsea, both clubs having lost five domestic matches this season BUT United having won two more than the Stamford Bridge club.
Yet until vert recently, some Newcastle United fans had been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…
In domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United have won more matches AND lost less, than all of Man City, Brighton, Tottenham, Man U and Villa.
You get the media and some Newcastle fans still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last twelve United matches (all competitions) over more than two months, have seen eight wins, two draws and only the two defeats.
