A huge Premier League clash in the battle to qualify for the Champions League
Newcastle host Chelsea in the Premier League this afternoon
ES Composite
Chelsea travel to Newcastle this afternoon for a huge clash in the race to qualify for the Champions League.
The Blues have hit consistent form at just the right time with three wins on the spin to move level on points with fourth-placed Newcastle, who have dropped five points in their last two games.
A defeat for either team would severely hamper their chances of finishing in the top five, with Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa also in the mix and in some cases far easier run-ins.
It is a tight turnaround for Chelsea, who faced Djurgarden in the Conference League on Thursday night before leaving for Newcastle less than 48 hours later, but have an impressive recent record against Sunday’s opponents.
Newcastle vs Chelsea is scheduled for a 12pm BST kick-off today, Sunday, May 11, 2025.
The match will take place at St James’ Park in Newcastle.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on TNT Sports 1, with coverage starting at 11am for a 12pm midday kick-off.
Live stream: TNT Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Discovery+ app and website.
Live blog: You can follow all the action on matchday via Standard Sport’s live blog, with expert analysis from Malik Ouzia at the ground.

This is arguably the biggest game of the weekend, despite champions Liverpool hosting Arsenal later today. Two teams capable of beating anyone of their day as they look to take a huge step towards qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
You worry for Newcastle without Joelinton, while Alexander Isak is not lighting up the league of late. Form has started to wobble, and the same cannot be said for Chelsea who have earned three impressive victories on the bounce.
Chelsea will surely score at least once and an early goal could see Newcastle knees start to wobble.
