On Friday afternoon he brought to the surface and therefore set off a discussion on the summer transfer activity insisting that there is always a need to refresh the squad while accepting that the club’s business model includes selling on at least one of the season’s prominent players. Then he dropped the message that this can also include a need to refresh the manager too.
Perfectly delivered it was missed by no-one. Pre-match yesterday when his players roared back from that shocking display on an awful surface at McDiarmid Park, Rodgers was asked about his remarks about changing the manager and clarified that he’s 150% certain to be the Celtic manager next season, his third in his three year contract.

When Brendan Rodgers returned to replace Ange Postecoglou I sat in the media room at Celtic Park for well over an hour waiting for Brendan to come into speak to the Celtic fan media, perhaps his most crucial conference of the day. He went to great lengths to explain how he understood the hurt that his sudden departure for Leicester City caused and that he did not want that to be his legacy at Celtic. He gave an assurance that it was a three year contract he’d signed and for his part he’d be here for the three years.
After that they the old rules come back into play. Was his message accepted by those supporters who all shook his hand at the manager’s insistence at the start of the fan media conference? 100%, he was believed.
Celtic know this too and as we said a week ago today, before the game in Perth, Dermot Desmond should be making it his own personal mission this summer to sort out the manager’s contract this summer, otherwise it will leave the club counting down to months until an alternative has to be found and that will bring uncertainty to the squad and affect the summer transfer window in terms of ins and outs and could also have a negative impact on next season.

After the 5-1 win over Kilmarnock yesterday Brendan Rodgers was ready to speak openly about the longer term and his own future beyond the end of May 2026.
“It’s not something that the club or I need to worry about now. This is about getting the job done and we’ll see where we’re at over the season,” Brendan explained post match as reported by Daily Record.
“But the club knows my position. I was always going to be here for the three years, but I’m sure we’ll have a chat of some sort over the course of the summer. But for now, it’s focusing on getting the job done.
“It’s been a great, great journey for us up until now. So we’ve already finished in the best way we possibly can.
“I was just asked the question. But for any avoidance of doubt, because I was surprised when I got asked the question, I think if you were sat in my press conference here on the very first day I arrived, I promised unless I was removed I’d be here for three years minimum.
“So nothing changes. I was only really talking about, just in terms of team dynamic and how the game works. But no, there’s absolutely no doubt, unless Dermot Desmond tells me differently in the summer, I will be excited and ready for the beginning of the season.”
Over to you Desmond.
