When New York City FC played against the Columbus Crew last weekend, the attack was absolutely horrible. The Pigeons were not threatening by any means and were also without Alonso Martínez, who was away on international duty. Thankfully, the forward is back and will strive to continue his hot start to the 2025 season.
However, the defense, despite being outplayed by the Crew, stayed strong and stole the point on the road after the 0-0 draw. But can they earn another point or three this week? NYCFC will travel to Georgia to face Atlanta United FC in another superb environment in Major League Soccer. Playing in front of the home side’s supporters is never easy. Additionally, the Boys in Blue must deal with Miguel Almirón again, for the fan-favorite is back with the Five Stripes.
As many know, the Georgia team struggled last season, barely making playoffs after a ninth-place finish in the Eastern Conference. The roster has since improved this season with the return of Almirón and the acquisition of Emmanuel Latte Lath. However, after five matches, the team sits in 12th place with a 1-2-2 record. On the other hand, NYCFC has a 2-1-2 record with three more points compared to the opposition.
Therefore, based on the Five Stripes' current form, and the recent history between the two teams, one can believe that leaving with points is possible. Out of the last five games, four have ended in draws with NYCFC earning the lone win. Moreover, the Pigeons have not lost to Atlanta since 2019. The recent success of the defense over the last two games and the success makes a draw or win extremely possible.

If NYCFC fans cannot watch or listen to the game, then they can follow along via MLS Soccer’s timeline and NYCFC’s X account. Additionally, the club will post updates here and there on Bluesky and Facebook.
Notably, this will be a reunion game. Former head coach Ronny Deila is in charge of the Five Stripes, returning to Major League Soccer for the first time since his departure in 2022. Therefore, NYCFC will want to welcome him back in style by beating Atlanta.
