Official: Inter-PSG Champions League final referee revealed | OneFootball

Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs has been officially selected as the match official for the Champions League final between Inter and Paris Saint-Germain on May 31.

Kovacs, 40, who most regularly officiates in the Romanian SuperLiga, will take charge of the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena at the end of the month.

Kovacs will be joined by countrymen and assistant referees Mihai Marica and Ferencz Tunyogi, fourth official Joao Pedro Silva Pinheiro of Portugal and VARs Dennis Johan Higler of the Netherlands and Catalin Sorin Popa, also of Romania.

This will be Kovacs’s first Champions League final, but not his first final in a UEFA competition.

He was also the referee for the Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in last year’s Europa League final, and also for the inaugural Conference League final in 2022, which Roma won 1-0 against Feyenoord, meaning that an Italian team has won every UEFA final that Kovacs has refereed so far.

Kovacs has taken charge of seven Champions League matches so far in 2024-25, including one Inter match and two involving PSG.

He was in charge for Inter’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the league phase, PSG’s 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the league phase and the second leg of the round of 16 tie between Liverpool and PSG, which the Parisians won on penalties at Anfield.
