Earlier in the season, Barcelona and Osasuna played out a seemingly normal game, which ended with the Catalans securing a 3-0 victory.

However, not too long after the defeat, Osasuna kickstarted a legal battle with Barça, arguing that Inigo Martinez was not eligible to play for the Blaugrana.

Osasuna pointed to the fact that the defender had been called up for international duty but was released due to injury.

According to Osasuna, the regulations prevented him from playing for Barça within five days of being declared unfit to represent Spain.

However, both the RFEF and Barcelona maintained that Martinez had been formally and properly de-registered from the national team.

Two different committees – the RFEF’s disciplinary body and the Appeals Committee – have already sided with Barcelona. However, it appears Osasuna have not lost hope just yet.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Osasuna are still weighing whether to take their appeal to the final sporting authority in Spain, the TAD. They have until May 29 to decide, as their appeal to the RFEF was rejected on May 8.

The club believe that the disqualification of Martinez should have followed stricter procedures and argue that the injury ruling lacked proper legal backing.

Their case, though already dismissed by two governing bodies, still hinges on whether the TAD finds merit in their interpretation of the rules.

If TAD were to accept Osasuna’s appeal and overturn the result of that March fixture, it could cause a major shake-up.

Barcelona’s three points from that game would be at risk, which could dramatically impact the La Liga title race.

As things stand, the Catalans are only four points ahead of Real Madrid heading into the final matchday. A reversal could potentially drag the title race to the final matchday, where the club would need to secure a win against Athletic Club to lift the trophy.
