FC Barcelona were able to move three points clear of Real Madrid on the La Liga table last night as they beat Osasuna in the game for matchday 27.

The Blaugranes emerged winners with a 3-0 scoreline in this game, with Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, and Robert Lewandowski scoring the three goals for the Catalan team.

However, there was also some controversy about the match, as SPORT reports that Osasuna are studying the possibility of contesting the lineup of Barcelona as they believe one player was not eligible to play in this game.

This player is the defender Inigo Martinez, who was unable to join the Spanish national team in the March international break because of a physical problem he suffered in the last league game against Atletico Madrid.

Osasuna believe the Blaugranes might have breached a FIFA rule that stipulates that a player cannot play for at least five days after the last matchday for his national team in an international break if he has left the national team because of injury.

However, there is an exception which comes into force if the national team itself has released the player, which was seemingly the case for Inigo Martinez and the Spanish national team. However, Osasuna is studying this detail as believe the Basque defender should not have been eligible to play against them as Spain had played its last game on 23rd March, four days before the last night’s league game.

Meanwhile, the Barcelona director and lawyer, Toni Freixa, believes there is almost no possibility of a successful outcome for such a challenge by the Pamplona club.

Inigo Martinez had been called up by Luis de la Fuente for his team’s fixtures in the last international break. However, he was unable to join the national team camp because of internal parameniscitis in the right knee and remained in Barcelona to recover.
