Peter Crouch makes huge Robert Sanchez claim following Everton performance | OneFootball

Former Premier League star Peter Crouch has controversially claimed Robert Sanchez can be Chelsea’s long term number one.

Sanchez made a number of top saves in Saturday’s 1-0 win against Everton as Chelsea moved back into the top five as they look to qualify for the Champions League.

The Spaniard has come in for heavy criticism for his performances this season, but he was at his best against the Toffees, and Chelsea needed him to be.

Crouch makes Sanchez claim

The general consensus amongst Chelsea fans is Sanchez isn’t good enough, and supporters would ideally like to see him leave this summer.

The 27-year-old has made more errors leading to goals than any other keeper in the league, although Maresca has maintained faith in him, despite replacing him with Filip Jorgensen for a few games.

Maresca has defended Sanchez on multiple occasions this season, whilst Chelsea are set to conduct a summer review of the goalkeeper position before deciding if they need to enter the market.

Speaking after the Everton win, in which Sanchez made a couple of top saves, Crouch made a controversial claim and believes he can be Chelsea’s long term number one.

“I don’t think Beto can do a lot more,” Crouch told TNT Sports when discussing one of Sanchez’s saves.

“It’s right in the corner, and it’s a magnificent save. Today was Sanchez’s day. You did watch him grow in confidence. At corners, the free kicks, the crosses, they were coming under pressure, and he came out and claimed them.

Not many Chelsea fans are likely to agree with Crouch and the Blues have once again been linked with Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel this month, but whatever happens Chelsea have to make the right decision with their keepers this summer.
