Portugal and Denmark collide in Copenhagen this evening in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final.
Inaugural winners of the tournament in 2019, Portugal are bidding to become the first European team to win the Nations League twice. After a disappointing campaign at Euro 2024 ended in penalty elimination to France, Portugal are unbeaten in six games across all competitions. Martinez’s side qualified for the quarter-finals by winning League A Group 1.
The Portuguese boast a good record against Denmark and have lost just one of the last six encounters between the teams.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s record-breaking international career will continue past his 40th birthday. Ronaldo is set to lead the side for the first time since that milestone in February.
Incredibly, he could be joined in the side by a player 23 years his junior. Sporting Lisbon teenager Geovany Quenda, who will join Chelsea in 2026, has been called up for the first time.
Bernardo Silva could reach 100 caps during the upcoming break with tonight set to be the Manchester City midfielder’s 99th outing for the national side.
Portugal predicted XI: Costa; Dalot, A. Silva, Dias, Mendes; Vitinha, Neves; Bernardo Silva, Fernandes, Leao; Ronaldo.
Denmark host Portugal in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final on Thursday 20th March 2025. Kick-off in Copenhagen is 19:45 GMT.
Denmark v Portugal will be available to watch live on the Viaplay International YouTube channel.
