Ever since Barcelona have returned to a 1:1 rule, the club have appeared much more open to signing players, though perhaps not in the ongoing January transfer window.

Although Barcelona’s primary objective is to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, the club is keen on shoring up their ranks as well.

The attacking department, in particular, has proven to be a weakness, especially with the team lacking a proper alternative to Robert Lewandowski.

While Barça’s interest in Luis Diaz and Rafael Leao has been well documented lately, the club have been also linked with other forwards, including Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Barcelona sporting director Deco had a summit with Duran’s agent surrounding a potential summer move to Catalonia.

A recent report from Diario SPORT has revisited Barcelona’s interest in Duran, offering more context into the club’s desire to sign the forward.

The report does, however, add that Aston Villa are expected to ask no less than €60-70 million for the services of Duran.

Formerly of Chicago FC, Duran has had immense success since joining the Villans in 2023. This season alone, the forward has racked up 12 goals in 26 competitive matches.

Duran’s efficiency in front of goal has been of real help to Aston Villa, with the player’s market value soaring up to €40 million.

With his contract not expiring until 2030, Aston Villa have every reason to hold out for a fortune. Barcelona, to that end, may have no option but to shift their focus to other alternatives in the market.
