PSV vs Arsenal: Preview, predictions and lineups

Arsenal travel to PSV Eindhoven in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday evening aiming to get back to winning ways.
The Gunners have stumbled in the Premier League title race over the past ten days and have all but surrendered in their fight for top spot. Having been dumped out of both cup competitions, the Champions League now appears their most likely route to silverware this season.
Arsenal will be reliant on defence over attack during their trip to the Netherlands having seen their forward line decimated by injuries over recent weeks. They have blanked in their last two matches and will be aiming to get back on the scoresheet on Tuesday.
PSV don't enter the midweek match-up in particularly encouraging form despite overcoming Juventus during the play-off round. Back-to-back defeats to Go Ahead Eagles in the KNVB Cup and Eredivisie have left Peter Bosz with questions to answer - the defeat in the former their first on home soil since November 2022.
This will be the third consecutive campaign that PSV and Arsenal lock horns in European competition, with the Gunners failing to win either of their recent trips to Eindhoven. They have won both fixtures to nil at the Emirates Stadium, however.
Here is 90min's guide to the duel.

PSV have their own injury concerns in the forward line with Ricardo Pepi, Esmir Bajraktarevic and Malik Tillman all likely to miss out on Tuesday. The Dutch club have signed former Arsenal striker Lucas Perez on a free transfer to help fill the void but the Spaniard is not registered to feature in the Champions League.
Sergino Dest is closing in on a return having missed the entirety of the campaign with an ACL tear but is unlikely to feature midweek, while fellow full-back Mauro Junior is doubtful, too.
Manchester United loanee Tyrell Malacia is likely to feature at left-back if Junior is missing, while ex-Tottenham man Ivan Perisic should be used from the bench. Luuk de Jong will lead the line and the highly-rated Johan Bakayoko will be aiming to catch the attention of Premier League clubs having already scored against Liverpool this term.
PSV predicted lineup vs Arsenal (4-2-3-1): Benitez; Ledezma, Flamingo, Boscagli, Malacia; Veerman, Schouten; Bakayoko, Saibari, Lang; De Jong.

Arsenal's failure to strengthen their forward line during the winter has come back to bite them, with Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz all missing.
Orthodox midfielder Mikel Merino is expected to line up in the number nine position for a third consecutive match such are Arsenal's lack of options, with Leandro Trossard and Ethan Nwaneri either side of the Spaniard.
Arsenal will need their defence to stand firm and they have their first-choice back four available, with Ben White having recently returned to the fold. Takehiro Tomiyasu is the only member of the backline missing.
Myles Lewis-Skelly was suspended in the Premier League midweek but he's available once more and could replace Riccardo Calafiori at left-back.
Arsenal predicted lineup vs PSV (4-3-3): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Nwaneri, Merino, Trossard.
PSV have been defensively suspect in recent weeks and seldom look solid at the back under the offensive-minded Bosz, but Arsenal's lack of attacking firepower may result in them taking a defensive approach in the Netherlands.
That could well restrict that entertainment on offer in Eindhoven as they look to secure a positive result to take back to north London, with a draw arguably a good outcome for the Gunners given their current woes.
