Real Madrid are scouring the transfer market in urgent search of a centre-back to bolster their defensive line after losing Eder Militao to a season-ending injury.
According to AS, Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is one of several options under consideration by the reigning European and La Liga champions.
Militao’s recurring knee injury caught up to him again in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Osasuna as he tore his anterior cruciate ligament while competing in a duel.
His unfortunate setback has left Carlo Ancelotti with limited options at the back.
Madrid are also missing David Alaba, which means Antonio Rudiger is the only fit centre-back in the squad, forcing the club to explore possible acquisitions when the January transfer window opens.
Ancelotti will rely on youth stars Raul Asencio and Jacobo Ramon to fill the void until then.
However, Madrid’s front office is already at work, hunting for a viable and affordable solution to add stability at the back.
One name gaining serious attention is Leverkusen’s Tah, whose contract runs out next summer.
Tah is set to leave the club when his contract runs out, which means his market value has plummeted, making him a cost-effective option for Madrid.
Los Blancos also have Al Nassr’s Aymeric Laporte and RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba on their radar, but Tah’s price tag and experience make him a decent stop-gap option.
Tah’s agent, Pini Zahavi, has already confirmed that he will not stay with Leverkusen beyond June 2025, which has put pressure on the German club to cash in on him in January rather than lose him for free.
Record Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich are also strong candidates to secure Tah’s signature. They came close to signing him last summer, but Leverkusen’s exorbitant price tag put them off.
With Madrid now in the mix, both heavyweights will likely go head-to-head for the experienced defender in January.
