It has been almost three years since Mario Gila left Real Madrid to sign for Lazio in a deal worth €6 million.

The 24-year-old has developed very well in Italy, establishing himself as a permanent fixture in the lineup and one of Serie A’s most consistent centre-backs.

So much so that, there have been talks of Los Blancos holding an interest in re-signing Gila, although nothing has come of it so far.

Real Madrid could benefit financially

However, now, according to AS, Gila has caught the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, which could help Real Madrid financially.

The Spanish centre-back has been delivering outstanding performances for Lazio in both Serie A and the Europa League, making him a target for several top teams.

While his contract runs until 2027, there is already significant interest in securing his services.

With a high demand for young centre-backs in European football, Gila’s emergence represents a major opportunity for top Champions League clubs. His market value has now risen to €28 million – far beyond the €6 million Lazio originally paid for him.

This situation presents a win-win scenario for both Lazio and Real Madrid, given that Los Blancos inserted a 50% future sell-on clause for the 24-year-old when they sold him to the Serie A outfit.

As such, if Gila ends up leaving Lazio for a bigger club in the summer, Real Madrid would stand to pocket half the transfer fee that the Italian outfit would receive.

The 24-year-old made only two senior appearances for the Spanish capital giants but could help the team financially.
