Over the past few days, it has become well-established that Real Madrid will enter the market for the signing of a new central midfielder.
Things have simply not clicked for Los Blancos this season following Toni Kroos’ retirement. And with Luka Modric’s future also uncertain, the need for a reinforcement is apparent.
Players like Alexis Mac Allister of Liverpool and Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi have already been touted as possible targets. Now, a new name has been added to the shortlist.
Indeed, according to Daily Mail, Real Madrid have their sights on Chelsea and Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The Merengues have tracked the 24-year-old midfielder since his days at River Plate and followed him at Benfica before he made a £106 million switch to Chelsea in January 2023.
A hybrid between a defensive and attacking midfielder, Enzo has had his issues at Chelsea but has grown into a pivotal member of the team, even donning the captain’s armband in the absence of first skipper Reece James.

With Real Madrid now scouring the market for a midfielder, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner’s name seems to have resurfaced as a target.
However, as per the report, Chelsea have no intentions of losing Enzo in the summer if Real Madrid decide to act on their interest in the midfielder.
The Blues see the 24-year-old as an untouchable and have no plans of breaking the midfield partnership of the Argentine and Moises Caicedo, on whom they spent a combined £220 million.
It must be noted that Enzo signed a long-term contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2032 when he arrived, putting the Londoners in a strong position.
As such, Real Madrid’s interest in the Argentine international is unlikely to materialise into anything substantial unless Chelsea decide to shake things up out of the blue.
