At the end of last year, Real Madrid were blessed with the return of David Alaba to team training.

The Austrian returned to team training after a period of 12 months, sparking joy and excitement within the Real Madrid camp.

Since then, Alaba has completed several training sessions with the group and appears to have fully recovered.

Alaba offers update on his fitness

In light of his return to fitness, Alaba issued a message to Real Madrid fans, where he opened up about his journey.

“I feel very good, very happy to be back with the team. The process has been difficult and long. Many days working hard and it was very hard, not easy at all,” Alaba began (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

The Austrian went on to thank his teammates for the support they had given him throughout this tough period.

“I appreciate their effort and their help. Especially Pedor who has been with me since day one. I was waiting for this moment and it has arrived,” the veteran added.

Alaba’s statement come just a day before Real Madrid’s big match against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.

Although the veteran might not be fit enough to be considered against Barça this weekend, his presence in the Real Madrid camp could serve as a huge moral support for the players.

Alaba, after all, is among the most experienced players in the team and a proven leader. The Austrian, therefore, commands the same respect as the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Dani Carvajal and Luka Modric.

In any case, Real Madrid have plans to eventually integrate Alaba back into the pitch, with the upcoming Las Palmas game identified as the ideal return date for the veteran.
