One name that has been repeatedly linked with a Merseyside move for a number of seasons is Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.

It feels as though the Brazilian forward is linked with an Anfield Switch every six months, but this summer a deal could finally be done.

With the futures of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez all uncertain, Rodrygo could be the blockbuster signing that marks the start of a new era at Anfield, but is he worth the eyewatering fee it would take?

Real Madrid set Rodrygo price

According to Fichajes, Los Blancos have opened the door to the sale of Rodrygo, but any interested team will have to meet their €100 million evaluation for a deal to be done.

The report also states that Manchester City and PSG will rival Liverpool for the forward’s signature, meaning the Reds could be drawn into a bidding war and end up paying even more than Real Madrid’s massive demand.

Such a fee would see Madrid over double the €45 million they paid for Rodrygo in 2019 and would also smash Liverpool’s current record transfer spend on a single player.

Should Liverpool spend big on Rodrygo?

As well as the record transfer fee it would take to get the Brazilian to Anfield, the 24-year-old is likely to demand wages that would put him on a par with the club’s top earners.

Rodrygo currently earns a reported €240,00 (~£205,000) per week, and he isn’t going to take a pay cut to play in the Premier League.

The Brazilian is capable of being deployed right across the forward line, and this does fit the criteria that Liverpool look for when recruiting attackers, but Rodrygo does not represent value for money.

In 50 appearances for Los Blancos this season, Rodrygo has managed 13 goals and 10 assists.

In comparison, Luis Diaz has managed 16 goals and eight assists in three less appearances for Liverpool – and he is paid roughly a quarter of the wage Rodrygo receives each week.

Rodrygo’s name carries a certain prestige, he is considered one of Europe’s elite forwards, but the price Liverpool would have to pay for such a name doesn’t equate to the output they would receive in return.
