Mainoo has been a bit unfortunate with injuries this season. He has featured across 25 games so far and has a goal and an assist under his hat. He is averaging 0.6 shots, 0.7 key passes, and 1 dribble per game (stats via whoscored).
The English midfielder is versatile enough to don different roles in the middle of the park. He is comfortable on the ball and does well in tight spaces. He is a good carrier of the ball and can provide line-breaking passes apart from maintaining composure in pressure situations.
Real Madrid have been successful in targeting emerging talents and transforming them into performing assets in recent years. Hence, their pursuit of Kobbie Mainoo makes sense as he is also a talented kid, who can script a legacy for himself.
Mainoo has done well in his short career so far despite his team not doing so far. He is likely to improve further with more experience. Given his versatility, intelligence, and calm nature, he can be a good addition to the Whites’ unit.
The 19-year-old should cost Real Madrid around £70 million. However, the Spanish outfit might fancy a signing only if one of their star midfielders leaves in the summer. Notably, Mainoo had turned down contract renewal talks, indicating his willingness to switch clubs.
